Owen was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday evening.  We are so happy to have him home with us.  We went to the doctors on Thursday morning and she said he was doing great!  Now Bernd and I are just trying to settle into being parents.  Owen is making things pretty easy on us though, he is a good little guy.

Owen had lots of visitors at the hospital.  Thanks to everyone that came by (I don’t have pictures of everyone that came).  Having our family and friends look at our little baby through the glass windows of the nursery wasn’t exactly what we had planned.  But occasionally we could sneak a family member or friend in to the nursery for a quick snuggle with Owen.

Bernd is the best daddy Owen could ask for.  While we were in the hospital Bernd was going back and forth between my room and the nursery.  He wanted to spend every second with Owen to make sure he was ok.  The first night we were in the hospital Owen didn’t eat well for the nurses and they ended up pumping his stomach the next morning.  After that Bernd made sure he was there for every feeding.  Every 3 hours like clockwork he was in the nursery feeding his son.  It didn’t matter if it was 3:00 am or not he was there.

I’m so grateful that Bernd was able to take care of our son in my absence.  Owen’s nurses were great for the most part, but we really feel like Bernd taking over the feeding really helped Owen to do better and helped us get home with him quicker.

Bernd has had serious withdrawals with feeding Owen since we got home.  He can’t wait until we can give him a bottle again so he can feed him.

Owen's First Day

Comments No Comments »

Owen Bernd was born this morning at 4:47 am.  He weighs 7 lbs. 10 oz. and measures 20 inches long.  He has big feet and hands and lots of hair!  Owen came right on his due date and now shares a birthday with his Uncle Dale.

They induced me last night around 9:30 because I was running a high fever and they were concerned about the baby.  They gave us the option of treating my fever and monitoring me and baby overnight or inducing me.  The on call doctor recommended inducing because they hadn’t been able to figure out where the infection was in me so they didn’t know if the baby was in danger or not.  So we made the decision to get the baby out of harms way.

Owen was wisked away to the level 2 nursery at the hospital shortly after he was born so that they could run tests, monitor him, and give him some medicine.  He had a little bit of a fever when he was born as well as rapid breathing.  But by late morning he was doing lots better.  They are keeping close watch on him in the nursery so we haven’t been able to see or hold him much.  But we are so grateful for the care that he is getting.  All of his nurses love him!

We are so excited to welcome this new addition to our family.  We love him so much and can’t wait to spend more time with him.  We appreciate all of the visits, phone calls, text messages, and e-mails from all of our family and friends today.  We appreciate all of your love, prayers and support!
