Archive for December, 2009Owen was so excited to get a picture under the tree in his Christmas PJ’s so he could wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from our family to yours. So I was summoned to jury duty, again. I was worried all weekend that I wouldn’t be able to save enough milk for Owen to eat while I was performing my civic duty. I worried that Bernd wouldn’t be able to get any work done while taking care of Owen. I worried that my house wasn’t very clean and Bernd’s business partner was coming over. But I never worried about this…
So I was sitting in the courtroom with all of the other potential jurors when a security officer entered the courtroom and spoke to the clerk. Next thing I know the judge is asking if anyone owned a silver Honda. I raised my hand and the judge asked me to approach the bench. Of course the first thing that went through my head was, what does my silver Honda have to do with this case or my ability to be a juror. The judge then told me that my car had been hit and because of that he was going to dismiss me from jury duty. So I followed the security officer out of the courtroom and he started telling me what happened. He told me that a lady had backed into my car and that the officer that responded to the accident got all of her information. He was telling me that the whole thing was caught on the security cameras, he hadn’t seen the video or the car yet so he didn’t know exactly what had happened. We walked up to the car from the back and neither of us saw any damaged. We got to the front of the car and the officer said “what the hell did she do?!” These pictures don’t do the damage justice. The front end of the car is a total mess. She pushed the car back at least 2 feet. Thankfully our car didn’t hit the car parked behind me. Since the lady that hit the car was long gone by the time they found me I have no idea what happened but she sure did a number to our car. So Bernd packed Owen up and came to get me and deal with the car. By the time he got off the phone with the insurance company all of the jury members that were not selected for the trial were leaving the courthouse. So even though I was dismissed early I didn’t get to leave until long after most of my fellow jurors. Before I learned that my car was hit I knew it was just a matter of time before they dismissed me as a juror because of the nature of the case. Last time I was summoned to jury duty it was for a similar case and I was the first person dismissed because of my bias with this particular offense. So I would have been long gone, but instead I got to deal with this loveliness. Good thing I got my $18.50 of tax payer money for all my trouble, it made the whole experience totally worth it (that’s was completely sarcastic in case you weren’t sure!). I have lots to talk about and I didn’t want to do a bunch of posts, hence the random title. Owen’s new cousin was born on November 18th. Cole is so cute and we are so excited to have him join our family. We are already enjoying having 3 little boys in the family. I can’t wait until they are all a little older and can play together.
Owen had his 4 month check up. Here are his stats. Height: 25 inches -- 50% Weight: 13 lbs. 11 oz. -- 25% (he dropped from 50%) Head: 42 cm -- 50% We were a little surprised that his weight dropped so much. He is getting cute fat rolls on his legs and arms so I was surprised he was so low. However people are always telling me that he is little so I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised. I think Cole might catch up to Owen before we know it. Cole was almost 10 lbs. at his 2 week visit! Thanksgiving was great as usual. We missed Josh, Sabrina and the boys but it was fun to have Dan, Deb and family join us for dinner. I didn’t get any pictures on Thanksgiving which I’m sad about. Also there was no snow storms while we were in Park City which was disappointing. I love being up there for Thanksgiving, sitting by the fire, with a huge snow storm.
We were playing Domino’s and Owen wanted to be on Jake’s team! Owen loves his Uncle Jake. I started feeding Owen cereal last week. I wasn’t sure if he was ready or not but thought I would try it out. I don’t know how much he is actually getting in his mouth but he is really interested in it. I put Owen in his Bumbo fully clothed with a little bib on the first time we fed him. I don’t know what I was thinking! Since that first time I learned my lesson and I strip him down to just a diaper.
