So I was summoned to jury duty, again. I was worried all weekend that I wouldn’t be able to save enough milk for Owen to eat while I was performing my civic duty. I worried that Bernd wouldn’t be able to get any work done while taking care of Owen. I worried that my house wasn’t very clean and Bernd’s business partner was coming over. But I never worried about this…

So I was sitting in the courtroom with all of the other potential jurors when a security officer entered the courtroom and spoke to the clerk. Next thing I know the judge is asking if anyone owned a silver Honda. I raised my hand and the judge asked me to approach the bench. Of course the first thing that went through my head was, what does my silver Honda have to do with this case or my ability to be a juror. The judge then told me that my car had been hit and because of that he was going to dismiss me from jury duty.
So I followed the security officer out of the courtroom and he started telling me what happened. He told me that a lady had backed into my car and that the officer that responded to the accident got all of her information. He was telling me that the whole thing was caught on the security cameras, he hadn’t seen the video or the car yet so he didn’t know exactly what had happened. We walked up to the car from the back and neither of us saw any damaged. We got to the front of the car and the officer said “what the hell did she do?!”
These pictures don’t do the damage justice. The front end of the car is a total mess. She pushed the car back at least 2 feet. Thankfully our car didn’t hit the car parked behind me. Since the lady that hit the car was long gone by the time they found me I have no idea what happened but she sure did a number to our car.
So Bernd packed Owen up and came to get me and deal with the car. By the time he got off the phone with the insurance company all of the jury members that were not selected for the trial were leaving the courthouse. So even though I was dismissed early I didn’t get to leave until long after most of my fellow jurors.
Before I learned that my car was hit I knew it was just a matter of time before they dismissed me as a juror because of the nature of the case. Last time I was summoned to jury duty it was for a similar case and I was the first person dismissed because of my bias with this particular offense. So I would have been long gone, but instead I got to deal with this loveliness. Good thing I got my $18.50 of tax payer money for all my trouble, it made the whole experience totally worth it (that’s was completely sarcastic in case you weren’t sure!).

Ok, was she in a hurry or what? What’d she do, throw it in reverse and floor the gas? Jeesh. I wonder if she was trying to park or if she was leaving. Obviously had some acceleration issues. I wonder if you could get a copy of the tape and post it. That’d be pretty funny.
She had to have the hit the gas really hard to do that much damage. At least you can apply the $18.50 toward your deductible!

There isn’t much chance they would determine it was our fault, so we won’t have to pay our deductible at all, her coverage will pay for everything!

Jodi, I’m so sorry. What a bummer of a day and just trying to do your civic duty.
