We recently had our first snow storm of the season which meant Owen got to taste his very first snowball. You can’t see the snowball in this picture but as you can see he wasn’t too sure about it! I don’t think he liked how cold it was on his hands. Either that or else he was upset that the Utes were getting killed by TCU!
The first snow also meant Owen needed some new gear to keep him warm. The hat is a little big but I think it will do the trick.
Owen has now learned how to roll from his back to his tummy. We’ve noticed that he only rolls to his left. It doesn’t matter if he is rolling tummy to back or back to tummy.
He has started scooting around a little bit and when he is on his tummy he lifts his bum in the air and gets on his knees. I think we are going to have a crawler soon. We never planned on having a kid at this house and now we are about to childproof it. Hopefully we get moved before he starts walking.
Owen rolled over for the first time today! I put him on his stomach for some tummy time this morning and he immediately rolled onto his back. I thought it might have been a fluke so I put him on his stomach again. Sure enough he rolled right over.
As soon as Owen started playing with his toes I knew it was just a matter of time until he stuck them in his mouth. Well he figured it out! I must say it’s pretty dang cute. Luckily his toes are always clean!
Owen is now 3 months old, how time flies. Here is an update of what Owen has been up to.
Owen has recently discovered his toes. The funniest thing about this is that he doesn’t realize he can grab his toes when he has pants on for some reason. So anytime I change his diaper or his clothes his legs shoot straight up and he grabs his toes. It’s only a matter of time before he gets his toes to his mouth which is where everything he grabs ends up these days.
Owen continues to look more and more like his dad, blue eyes and all. Everywhere we go people tell us he looks just like his dad.
(I guess looks aren’t the only thing Owen is going to have in common with his Dad)
Owen loves watching TV and looking at the computer screen. I know I shouldn’t think this is cute since he is way too young to be addicted to TV. However it is so funny how he cranes his neck to see the TV and how he can just lay and stare at it for long periods of time. I know I’m a terrible Mother for letting this happen at such a young age!
Owen had his first haircut. People kept telling me that I was crazy when I said he needed his haircut, but trust me it looks way better now. He had a bunch of long hairs and crazy wings by his ears.
(It’s hard to see but this is a picture of his new haircut)
Owen loves books. He has to be in just the right mood but he loves to sit on my lap and have books read to him. His current favorite is a book about colors that I bought him the other day.
We made the “big move” this week. Since he was born Owen has been sleeping in our room but now he is sleeping in his own room in his crib. The first night he slept in his own room I went to bed really sad. Is that crazy?
Owen has recently learned how to spit. Bernd and I are not excited about this new trick.
Owen also got a visit from Grandma V. She came to Utah to see Owen for her Birthday. We hope she had a very happy Birthday and a good visit with Owen.
So he is a very healthy proportional kid. The Doctor said he was doing great and couldn’t believe he was sleeping through the night. For those of you that don’t know Owen has been sleeping through the night pretty much since he was released from the hospital. Lately he has been sleeping from about 10:00pm to 7:00am. I don’t know what we did to deserve such a good sleeper but hey I’ll take it! Owen got his first round of immunizations today and he did great. Hopefully the next day goes as well as the actual shots did.
Some of Owen’s other accomplishments have been showing emotions, he smiles all the time and has started laughing a little bit. He also talks to us when we talk to him. It takes his whole body to get the little sounds out but he loves it when he hears his voice. He also really likes to hold people’s hands. When he is upset or needs comfort if you let him hold your finger he calms right down (usually). He loves the feel of his soft blankets against his cheeks. If he is getting sleepy or needs comfort if I put his blanket over him and put a corner on his cheek he snuggles right into it and calms down. Also he loves to stand up. The Doctor was surprised when we told her that because he is so young. But he loves to stand up and sit down. I think he likes it so much because he can look around and see what’s going on.
Everyone keeps asking me how I’m liking staying home with Owen. It has been a real adjustment staying home and not going to work. I miss my friends at work so much and the adult interaction. However, I love being Owen’s Mom. I feel bad for those of my friends that want to stay home with their kids and can’t. So even though it’s been an adjustment staying home I am grateful that I have the opportunity to do so.
It’s the end of an era. 5 ½ years ago I started working at Making Memories and now I’m done. Today I turned in my laptop and my key to the building. I never planned on staying at Making Memories so long. I thought I would finish school and move on but I made so many good friends at MM that I could never let myself leave. I had so many great (and not so great) experiences while working at Making Memories. I made some amazing “real” (that’s for you Danielle) friends that I know I will have for a very long time. I will miss everyone very much.
It’s a strange feeling to wake up and not go to work. I feel like I have been working for so long that I don’t know anything different. Bernd and I feel so lucky that I get to stay at home with Owen. I don’t know that I ever pictured myself as a stay at home Mom but as soon as Owen came I knew it was the right decision. It will take some getting used to though!
I went to lunch with a friend yesterday and we got talking about how grateful we are to have married such great men that know what it takes to provide for their family. I am eternally grateful for Bernd’s hard work. He has such a great sense of responsibility and works very hard to make sure that Owen and I can live comfortably.
So to all my friends at MM, I will miss you. Keep in touch. Thanks for all the good times. I wish you all the best with everything. (Sorry to those of you I didn’t get to say goodbye to)
*I don’t have pictures of everyone so don’t get offended! Don’t look too close at the Halloween pictures with me as a sailor. They are some of the very few pictures I allowed to be taken of me while pregnant.
We just got back from San Francisco and we had a great time. Thanks to Josh and Jake we had an excuse to take a family vacation. Here is a quick rundown of our trip (sorry there are lots of pictures and for some reason we don’t have any with Sabrina in them but she was there, sorry Sabrina).
A quick trip to the beach so that Josh and Jake could participate in a practice swim. Harrison loved playing in the water and the sand and Grandma loved playing with him.
Two cute guys hanging out in the hotel room.
A trip to the Jelly Belly factory where we bought way too many beans.
Josh and Jake’s swim from Alcatraz, the reason for the trip. The first picture is of Grandma and Grandpa with Owen on the pier. It’s kind of hard to see but the next pictures are of the 400 or so swimmers that swam the race. They took them out on a boat and dropped them off near the island and they swam to shore. The white “waves” are the swimmers.
Risk of this.
A visit with Tosh, Lisa, Kennedy & Isabel (I can’t believe we don’t have any pictures of this). Thanks for coming down to tourist town to see us!
A trip to the Muir Redwood Forest.
A few of these. My favorite San Francisco treat!
A visit to the Aquarium by the Bay on pier 39. (Owen looking at the fish and Bernd eating a jellyfish)
California Academy of Science. Very cool, highly recommended if you ever have the chance.
And one really amazing baby that was a great traveler, thank goodness! Thanks to the fam for a really fun trip. Can’t wait for the next one.
Owen has always been a smiley kid, especially right after he starts falling asleep. We usually don’t have the video camera handy to catch it but the other day I was wiggling him a little and he was loving it! He was smiling more before we got the camera out but we did manage to record a little bit of it!
